Wasatiyyah will unite Malaysians

PUTRAJAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mua’dzam Shah urged Muslims to practise wasatiyyah, or moderation and balance in their lives as a means to foster unity among all Malaysians.
Through the practice of wasatiyyah, the Prophet Muhammad was able to promote tolerance and understanding in society in place of bad habits and fanaticism, he said.
“I am confident that should we follow the practice of wasatiyyah, we would be able to foster unity and achieve success,” he said when declaring open the national-level 1434H Maulidur Rasul celebration at the Putra mosque here.
Also present were Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah,Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Tuanku Abdul Halim noted that the Prophet proved through the practice of moderation and balance that diversity in race, religion, culture and language do not become obstacles to promoting unity in society.
Some 15,000 faithful from across the country turned up earlier in the morning to take part in the 2.4km procession towards the Putra mosque.
